The Prep Beat — Preparing for Success as a College Musician: What are the essential skills students should have before they begin study as a music major? An adjunct professor of Aural Skills and Music Theory at Ithaca College, Ms. O’Connor-Ballantyne shares her advice on how to set students up for success in their freshman music courses. Filled with practical tips, tricks, and suggestions for further study, this presentation will help students begin their college journey on the right foot. Can be customized for high school students and their parents, or teachers of high school students. Featured at the 2018 Show Choir Camps of America in Tiffin, OH.
Movement in the Choral Rehearsal: explore the many ways that movement can help your choir fully understand and integrate concepts of musical form, phrasing, text expression, blend, intonation, and harmonic structure. Suitable for choirs of all ages and experience levels.
From Musician to Composer: looking for ways to help grow the composers of tomorrow in your choral program? Let Ms. O’Connor-Ballantyne share some of her strategies for choral improvisation, text selection and setting, and composition with the students in your program, culminating in an original work created by your students! Best suited for middle school choirs and older.
